Srinagar, Jun 9: The Jammu & Kashmir on Tuesday appointed Suresh Kumar Gupta, a retired Indian Forest Service(IFS) officer, as chairperson of J&K State Water Resources Regulatory Authority.
According to an order, Gupta has been appointed a head of the J&K State Water Resources Regulatory Authority.
“In exercise of the powers conferred by section 139 of the Jammu and Kashmir Water Resources (Regulation and Management) Act, 2010, the Government of Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir hereby appoint Mr. Suresh Kumar Gupta, IFS (Rtd.) as Chairperson of the Jammu and Kashmir Water Resources Regulatory Authority,” the order reads.
According to the order, the appointment of Chairperson shall take effect from the date he assumes the charge of the post in the Authority.
The Government has also appointed Manoj Gupta, Chief Engineer as Member of the Jammu and Kashmir Water Resources Regulatory Authority.
With these appointments, the number of members which including chairperson has gone upto three. Rajesh Sharma, a former IAS officer, is currently serving as member and was appointed in 2024.
Jammu & Kashmir State Water Resources Regulatory Authority is a quasi- judicial body mandated to regulate, manage, and ensure the sustainable use of water resources across the Union Territory. It sets tariffs, monitors projects, resolves disputes, and advises the government on conservation and long-term water management strategies. (KNO)
