DDC Kulgam reviews progress of works, employment generation under MGNREGA

Kulgam, Jun 10: District Development Commissioner (DDC) Kulgam, Shahzad Alam, Wednesday chaired a comprehensive review meeting to assess the progress of works and performance under the MGNREGA scheme in the district.
The meeting was attended by Assistant Commissioner Development (ACD) Kulgam, all Block Development Officers (BDOs), MIS Operators and Technical Assistants.
During the meeting, the DDC Kulgam conducted a detailed review of the execution of works, employment generation, quality of assets being created and overall implementation of the MGNREGA Scheme across all blocks of the district.
Emphasizing transparency and accountability, the DDC Kulgam directed the functionaries of Rural Development Department Kulgam to ensure that only genuine and deserving job card holders are engaged under the programme and that employment opportunities are provided strictly in accordance with prescribed guidelines, without any duplicity or violation of norms.
The DDC Kulgam further stressed the need for the inclusion of persons with disabilities (PwDs) in the scheme and directed officers to encourage their active participation wherever feasible. He also underscored the importance of women empowerment and instructed BDOs to motivate and facilitate the participation of women, particularly those above the age of 40 years, in various permissible activities under the scheme.
Highlighting the significance of durable community assets, the DDC directed all concerned officers to ensure that the quality of works and assets created under the programme remains of the highest standard and that all works are executed strictly as per technical specifications.
He also instructed the ACD Kulgam and BDOs to undertake regular field inspections to monitor the progress and quality of works. He also stated that he would personally conduct frequent inspections of worksites to ensure effective implementation and adherence to guidelines.
