Srinagar, Jun 11: In order to ensure comprehensive civic preparedness for the forthcoming observance of Muharram-ul-Haram 2026, Commissioner, Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC), Faz Lul Haseeb, Thursday conducted an extensive field inspection of major Imambaras, shrines, and congregation points across Srinagar City.
The inspection was undertaken to review the status of arrangements being put in place by various wings of the Corporation and to assess on-ground preparedness at key religious sites expected to witness large gatherings during the holy month.
Accompanied by senior officers of SMC, including Joint Commissioners, Superintending Engineers, Executive Engineers, Chief Sanitation Officer, Transport Officer, Zonal Sanitation Officers, and concerned Ward Officers, the Commissioner visited several important locations, including Ayatullah Syed Yousuf Imam Bara, Bemina; Kadimi Imam Bara, Zadibal; Astaan Aalia Mir Shams-ud-Din Iraqi Shrine; Imam Bara Baghwanpora; and Imam Bara Hassanabad, among other sites.
During the inspection, the Commissioner issued strict directions to all concerned officers to ensure timely completion of sanitation, drainage clearance, road repairs, desilting of drains, maintenance of street lighting, uninterrupted water supply, and proper deployment of manpower and machinery at all identified locations.
The Commissioner stressed that all civic amenities must be made available well in advance and directed field officers to maintain continuous monitoring of the arrangements. He emphasized that no deficiency should remain unattended and that all departments must work in close coordination to facilitate devotees and ensure smooth conduct of Muharram-related activities.
Special focus was laid on sanitation management, waste disposal mechanisms, emergency response preparedness, and improvement of public infrastructure around major religious congregational sites. The Commissioner also directed the concerned officers to remain available in the field and ensure prompt redressal of public grievances.
Reaffirming the Corporation’s commitment towards public service, the Commissioner stated that Srinagar Municipal Corporation is fully committed to providing a clean, safe, and well-managed environment for the observance of Muharram-ul-Haram and that all necessary measures are being undertaken to ensure the convenience and welfare of the public.
