Srinagar, Jun 11: A zipline facility has started operations in the Markoot area of Gurez Valley in north Kashmir’s Bandipora district, adding a new adventure tourism activity to the region.
The project has been set up by local resident Waheed Ahmad and is the first such facility in Gurez, officials said.
The launch comes as Gurez has witnessed a rise in tourist arrivals in recent years. The valley, located near the Line of Control, has emerged as a popular destination for visitors during the summer season.
Adventure tourism activities, including ziplining, are already operational in destinations such as Pahalgam and Sonamarg. Tourism stakeholders believe the addition of a similar facility in Gurez could help diversify tourism offerings in the valley.
Ahmad said visitors using the facility would be required to follow safety guidelines and instructions issued by trained staff. Safety equipment, including helmets and harnesses, has been provided for riders, he said. (KNS)
