Rafiabad, Jun 13: Minister for Agriculture Production, Rural Development & Panchayati Raj, Cooperatives and Election Department, Javid Ahmad Dar, Saturday undertook an extensive tour of Rafiabad, covering Sagipora, Zalipora, Nathipora, Bagh-e-Chatkakh, Bohipora, Wadoora, Seelo and Shankargund areas of Baramulla district, to review the functioning of irrigation infrastructure.
During the visit, the Minister carried out field inspection of canals, lift irrigation schemes, distributaries and water reservoirs to assess the water availability, progress of desilting operations and overall functioning during the ongoing agricultural season.
He interacted with the farmers and local residents to obtain firsthand feedback on irrigation-related issues. He emphasized that irrigation is the lifeline of agriculture, underscoring the importance of ensuring efficient and timely water supply.
The Minister directed the concerned officers to ensure uninterrupted and equitable distribution of water, particularly to paddy fields. He stressing that no farmer should face hardship due to shortage of irrigation water during the cultivation season. He instructed the officers to identify the vulnerable and underserved areas and prepare time-bound plans for upgradation and modernization of lift irrigation systems wherever required. He reiterated that strengthening irrigation infrastructure is critical for enhancing the agricultural productivity.
Chief Engineer, Irrigation & Flood Control Kashmir, ACD Baramulla, Executive Engineers of Irrigation and Flood Control and other senior officers of the department accompanied the Minister during the visit.
