Ensure strict adherence to timelines, quality standards: Javed Rana

Srinagar, Jun 18: Minister for Jal Shakti, Forest, Ecology & Environment and Tribal Affairs, Javed Ahmed Rana, along with Minister for Agriculture Production Department and Rural Development Department, Javid Ahmad Dar, Thursday reviewed the irrigation scenario in Ganderbal district, with special focus on availability of water in the tail-end areas.
The Ministers took note of complaints received from farmers and residents regarding inadequate irrigation facilities in several tail-end regions. They directed the concerned officers to conduct a detailed assessment of the situation. They stressed the need to ensure equitable distribution of irrigation water so that the farmers in all the areas receive adequate supply during the peak agricultural season.
Speaking on the occasion, Javed Ahmed Rana said, “ensuring fair and adequate water supply to every farmer, especially those in tail-end areas, is a top priority for the government led by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah. No farmer should be left without water due to inefficiencies in distribution.”
He further directed the concerned officers to conduct on-the-spot inspections and undertake regular field visits to closely monitor the irrigation scenario and ensure prompt redressal of any complaints raised by the farmers.
The Ministers emphasized that strengthening irrigation infrastructure and addressing water shortages remain key priorities of the administration for safeguarding agricultural productivity and supporting the farming community. They directed the officers to take immediate corrective measures wherever deficiencies are found and ensure efficient functioning of irrigation channels across the district.
Javid Ahmad Dar, speaking on the occasion, said agriculture is the backbone of the rural economy and timely irrigation support is essential for the farmers to sustain their livelihoods. “We will continue to work closely with the Jal Shakti Department to resolve these issues on priority and all efforts will be made to resolve the concerns of farmers swiftly,” he said.
The Ministers directed the concerned officers to examine the matter on a war-footing basis and take immediate steps to address the deficiencies, particularly in the tail-end areas, so that the farmers do not face any hardship during the ongoing agricultural season.
