Heat persists across J&K, MeT predicts heavy rain from Jul 11

Srinagar, Jul 9: The Meteorological (MeT) Centre Srinagar on Thursday said Jammu and Kashmir is likely to witness hot and humid weather over the next few days, while warning of heavy rainfall, flash floods and landslides in vulnerable areas of the Jammu division between July 11 and 12.
According to details shared by the MeT department, the weather is expected to remain generally hot and humid on July 9 and 10, with scattered spells of rain and thundershowers across the Union Territory. A few places in the Jammu division may also experience brief but intense heavy showers.
On July 11 and 12, many places are likely to receive one or two spells of rain and thundershowers, with isolated heavy rainfall and intense showers expected over the Chenab Valley and Pir Panjal range of Jammu division.
The weather is expected to remain largely hot and humid from July 13 to 16, although scattered rain and thundershower activity is likely, particularly in parts of the Jammu division.
The MeT department has advised people to stay away from nallas, streams and landslide-prone areas, warning that heavy rainfall during the afternoon and early morning hours on July 11 and 12 could trigger flash floods, landslides and mudslides at vulnerable locations in the Chenab Valley and Pir Panjal region.
Meanwhile, temperatures remained above normal across most parts of Kashmir on Thursday. Srinagar recorded a maximum temperature of 32.6 degrees Celsius, 1.9 degrees above normal, while Qazigund and Kupwara registered 31.0 degrees Celsius and 33.5 degrees Celsius, respectively. Pahalgam recorded 27.0 degrees Celsius, Gulmarg 23.0 degrees Celsius, and Jammu city 35.5 degrees Celsius, close to the seasonal average.
The MeT said residents should remain alert and follow weather advisories, particularly in flood- and landslide-prone areas. (KNO)
