New Delhi, Jul 15: The National Medical Commission (NMC) has issued the undergraduate (MBBS) seat matrix for the 2026-27 academic session and directed all medical colleges and counselling authorities across the country to strictly adhere to the approved intake while conducting admissions.
In a communication issued by the Office of the Secretary, NMC, the commission circulated the seat matrix for MBBS courses, excluding Nursing Institutions (NIs), along with a public notice containing guidelines for medical colleges and counselling committees.
The commission stated that the seat matrix has been prepared on the basis of decisions taken by the Medical Assessment and Rating Board (MARB) for the academic year 2026-27 and incorporates the decisions of the Appeal Committee and other competent authorities wherever applicable.
The NMC instructed all medical colleges, institutions and counselling authorities to ensure that admissions are made strictly against the approved number of seats notified for the 2026-27 academic session.
It also directed all stakeholders to carefully follow the instructions contained in the accompanying public notice and take necessary action to ensure compliance during the admission process.
The communication has been circulated to the Principal Secretaries and Directors of Medical Education of all States and Union Territories, the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) and other concerned authorities for implementation.
The seat matrix is expected to serve as the basis for the forthcoming MBBS counselling process for the 2026-27 academic session across medical colleges in the country. [KNT]
