Drass, Jul 25: Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Saturday paid rich tributes to Kargil War heroes who laid down their lives in the line of duty, honouring their courage, valour and unwavering commitment to the nation.
According to reports, the Defence Minister laid a wreath at Kargil War Memorial in Drass and honoured the bravery and supreme sacrifice of the fallen soldiers. The solemn ceremony was attended by senior civil and military officials.
Later he attended the Shaurya Sandhya programme as part of the Kargil Vijay Diwas commemorations.
A senior Army officer present at the event said, “The Kargil War Memorial stands as a lasting symbol of the courage and sacrifice of our soldiers. Every year, this occasion renews our commitment to uphold the values for which these brave hearts laid down their lives.”
A family member of a Kargil martyr attending the commemorative programme said, “Seeing the nation remember our loved ones with such respect and dignity gives us strength. Their sacrifice has not been forgotten, and that is our greatest source of pride.”
Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh Vinai Kumar Saxena, Army Chief General Dhiraj Seth, Northern Army Commander Lieutenant General Pratik Sharma, the General Officer Commanding of 14 Corps, and other senior Army officers were present on the occasion.
The Shaurya Sandhya programme is one of the key events organised to mark Kargil Vijay Diwas, commemorating India’s victory in the 1999 Kargil conflict and paying homage to the courage, valour, and sacrifice of the Armed Forces. (KNO)
