Srinagar, Aug 5: The autumn session of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly is likely to be convened from September 21, sources disclosed.
Sources said that the cabinet, which met on Tuesday afternoon under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, is understood to have recommended to Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha the convening of the autumn session. “The session is likely to commence from September 21,” they disclosed, adding that the LG will now formally summon the House.
As per the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganization Act, 2019, the interval between J&K Assembly’s last sitting in one session and the date appointed for its first sitting in the next session cannot exceed six months.
“The Lieutenant Governor shall, from time to time, summon the Legislative Assembly to meet at such time and place as he thinks fit, but six months shall not intervene between its last sitting in one session and the date appointed for its first sitting in the next session, “reads sub-section(1) of section 18 of J&K Reorganization Act- 2019.
Since the last sitting of the House was held on April 4, 2026, the Assembly had to be convened by or before October 3, 2026.
The J&K Assembly was adjourned sine die on April 4, 2026, after completing a 22-sitting budget session that began on February 2 and resumed on March 27 following a recess. (KNO)
