High Court stays contempt proceedings against IUST VC

Srinagar, Aug 5: The High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh on Wednesday issued notice in a petition filed by the Vice Chancellor of the Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST), Awantipora, while directing a stay on contempt proceedings before the Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT).
A division bench comprising Acting Chief Justice Sanjeev Kumar and Justice Mohd Yousuf Wani passed the order on a writ petition filed by Prof. Shakeel Ahmad Romshoo. The court has listed the matter for further hearing on September 7, 2026.
While staying the contempt proceedings, the bench requested the Tribunal to expedite and dispose of the main Original Application (OA) pending before it. “In the meantime, further proceedings in the contempt shall stay, however, the Tribunal shall do well to consider the main OA and dispose of the same finally,” the court ordered.
The petitioner was represented by Government Advocate Jehangir Ah. Dar, while the respondent, Dr. Sheikh Mohammad Imran, appeared through a team led by Senior Advocate S.A. Makroo, along with Advocates Danish Yousuf and Rahil Noor.
The court also directed the registry to summon the records from the Tribunal. Advocate Danish Yousuf accepted notice on behalf of the respondent. (KNS)
