New Delhi, Aug 6: Around 77 per cent of households in the Baramulla Lok Sabha constituency have been provided tap water connections under the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM), the Union Ministry of Jal Shakti informed the Lok Sabha on Thursday.
As per the reply by the Minister of State for Jal Shakti V. Somanna to an unstarred question by MP Abdul Rashid Sheikh, a total of 2,44,337 households out of 3,18,600 households in the Baramulla Lok Sabha constituency have been provided with tap water connections so far.
The ministry said that 525 water supply schemes are being implemented in the constituency at an estimated cost of Rs 2,073.50 crore. Of this, an expenditure of Rs 1,233.28 crore has been incurred so far.
Of the total 525 schemes, 250 have been physically completed, while the remaining 275 schemes are at various stages of execution. These schemes are expected to be completed by December 2028 in line with the extended timeline of Jal Jeevan Mission 2.0.
The Ministry further stated that drinking water is a State subject, and the responsibility for planning, approval, implementation, operation and maintenance of drinking water supply schemes rests with the concerned State/UT governments. The Centre provides technical and financial assistance for implementation of the mission.
The Union Cabinet in March 2026 approved extension of the Jal Jeevan Mission up to December 2028 with an enhanced outlay and a restructured implementation framework under JJM 2.0. (KNO)
