Multi-tier security arrangements put in place across Kashmir ahead of I-Day: IGP

Srinagar, Aug 11: Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir V K Birdi on Tuesday said that multi-tier security arrangements have been put in place across Kashmir to ensure peaceful Independence Day celebrations.
IGP Birdi while talking to reporters here said, “Security has been strengthened at key venues across Srinagar city and districts of the Valley.”
The IGP said, “Multi-tier security arrangements are in place not only at the venues but also around the city and in all districts of the Valley.”
He said preparations for the main Independence Day function in Srinagar were underway, including full-dress rehearsals and other arrangements to ensure the event is conducted smoothly.
The IGP also appealed to people to participate in the celebrations in large numbers, saying the Independence Day function was ultimately an occasion for the people.
“The function is for the people. The police work as an organiser. Since it is the function of the people, we ask people to participate in this function in large numbers so that it can be carried on successfully,” he said.
On the recent terror attacks in South Kashmir and whether investigators had made any breakthrough, IGP Birdi said, “The matter is under investigation. I don’t think it is appropriate to talk about it at this time. Whenever there is something that can be shared with you, we will share it at an appropriate time.”
Pertinently, security arrangements across Kashmir are being intensified ahead of the August 15 Independence Day celebrations, with special focus on major venues, Srinagar city and other parts of the Valley. Preparations for the main function in Srinagar are also underway, with full-dress rehearsals being held ahead of the main event on August 15. (KNO)
