Ramban, Aug 21: A lady riding a scooty was killed while her pillion rider was injured after their two-wheeler was hit by an unidentified tanker on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway in Ramban district on Friday.
An official said that the accident took place in the Seri area when the tanker, travelling from Srinagar towards Jammu, allegedly hit the scooty after its driver lost control of the vehicle.
He said the duo was shifted to District Hospital Ramban for treatment, where the lady was declared brought dead, while the other rider is undergoing treatment.
The deceased scooty rider was identified as Shakeela Banoo (24), wife of Sameer Tantary and a resident of Boli Bazar, Ramban, while the injured pillion rider was identified as Rafiya Farooq (26), daughter of Farooq Ahmed Wani and a resident of Kundi Karol.
Meanwhile, an investigation has been initiated and efforts are underway to trace and identify the vehicle and its driver. (KNO)
