J&K Bank set to resume recruitment after 5-year gap, notification likely soon

Srinagar, Sep 22: Jammu and Kashmir Bank is set to restart recruitment of banking assistants and officers after a gap of five years, with a recruitment notification likely to be issued within days, Managing Director and CEO Amitava Chatterjee said on Tuesday.
Chatterjee made the announcement while responding to a query during the Bank’s 88th Annual General Meeting (AGM) of shareholders held at the Sher-i-Kashmir International Convention Centre (SKICC) here.
He said the agreement with the agency that will conduct the recruitment examinations has been finalised and the notification will be issued shortly.
The recruitment process will cover Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh, he said.
On recruitment outside Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh, Chatterjee said the Bank may undertake limited hiring based on local language requirements in areas where it operates.
“The bank has a presence in 22 states outside J&K and we require employees who are proficient in local languages to serve our customers,” he added.
Earlier, J&K Bank held its 88th AGM at SKICC, with Part-time Non-Executive Chairman S. Krishnan chairing the meeting in the presence of MD & CEO Amitava Chatterjee and members of the Board of Directors.
Addressing shareholders, Krishnan said the Bank’s past, present and future were reflected in the AGM’s theme.
“Our past gives us identity. Our present gives us strength. Our future gives us responsibility. Trust is our inheritance. Tradition is our anchor. Transformation is our obligation,” he said.
He said the Bank’s progress should ultimately be measured by its contribution to the economic and social transformation of the region and beyond.
Speaking on the occasion, Chatterjee said the Bank had maintained its growth trajectory despite challenging circumstances and recorded its fourth consecutive year of record profitability.
“Net profit reached an all-time high of Rs 2,363 crore, registering year-on-year growth of 13.5 per cent. The growth momentum has continued into the current financial year. By June 2026, the Bank crossed the historic milestone of Rs 3 trillion in total business,” he said.
He said the Bank’s progress had been broad-based, with profitability, asset quality, efficiency and capital strength advancing together.
Chatterjee said investments in digital platforms, data analytics, cybersecurity and process automation had improved customer experience and operational efficiency.
“The rapid growth of up to 94 per cent in digital transactions during FY 2025-26 demonstrates the increasing trust customers place in our digital ecosystem,” he said.
Outlining the Bank’s future plans, Chatterjee said it would continue investing in people and technology while strengthening cybersecurity, customer experience and innovation.
“Our aspiration is clear: to become the ‘Bank of Choice’. Towards this goal, we will continue to invest in our people and technology, reinforce cybersecurity, improve customer experience and institutionalise a culture of innovation and excellence,” he said.
The AGM concluded with a question-and-answer session during which shareholders raised queries that were addressed by the MD & CEO. Shareholders also appreciated the Bank’s improving performance during FY 2025-26. (KNO)
