Anantnag, Oct 2: Police have registered a case against National Conference MLA from Pahalgam, Altaf Ahmad Wani alias Altaf Kaloo, and party spokesperson Umesh Bhat alias Umesh Talashi over allegations of assaulting a police personnel deployed as the legislator’s Personal Security Officer (PSO).
The case was registered at Police Station Anantnag after the PSO lodged a written complaint alleging that he was assaulted by the MLA and the party spokesperson while performing official duties.
The complainant alleged that an argument with the two leaders escalated into a physical altercation during which he was assaulted and sustained injuries.
Police have registered FIR No. 334/2026 under Sections 121 and 351 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Further investigation is underway.
Meanwhile, Kaloo denied the allegations, terming them baseless and seeking a fair and impartial probe into the incident.
The MLA alleged that the police personnel was absent from duty and that a confrontation ensued after he questioned him about it. He claimed the policeman pushed him when asked to explain his absence.
Kaloo urged the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kashmir, and the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Anantnag, to conduct an impartial inquiry to establish the facts surrounding the incident.
He also appealed to police authorities to verify the facts before issuing any official statement, maintaining that the matter should be examined objectively. (KNO)
