Kulgam, Oct 7: The Government Degree College (GDC) D H Pora, Wednesday organized a programme on the theme “From Campus to Career”, with Minister for Education, Social Welfare, Health and Medical Education, Sakeena Itoo as the chief guest.
Commissioner Secretary Education, Ram Niwas Sharma, Secretary in Higher Education Shafqat Iqbal, Director Colleges, Dr. Twinkle Suri and Nodal Principal Kashmir Division Colleges Dr. Seema Naz also attended the programme.
The programme commenced with a plantation drive inaugurated by the Minister in presence of Commissioner Secretary and other officers and students.
Sakeena Itoo appreciated the efforts of the college in advancing the skill based education in the area. She emphasised focused attention on creating skilled human resource and the need for introducing demand-driven subjects and courses to enhance opportunities and enrolment in the college.
The Minister advised the students to channelize their energies in the right direction and focus on enhancing their skills, which would enable them to navigate the challenges of life with confidence. She emphasized that youth is the most productive phase of life and should be utilized for learning, innovation and self-development. She urged them to stay away from distractions, work with discipline and determination and contribute positively towards nation building.
The Commissioner Secretary exhorted the students to draw inspiration from the dignitaries present on the dais and emphasized the importance of treading the path of hard work to build successful careers. Encouraging the female students in particular, he urged them to galvanize themselves by looking at the three eminent women achievers on the presidium as live symbols of women empowerment.
He informed that a proposal for creation of a dedicated Music Department in the college shall be submitted to the Government.
Speaking on the occasion, Secretary in Higher Education Department emphasized the importance of skills, overall development and leadership qualities beyond mere degrees among the young.
Earlier, in his welcome address, Principal, GDC DH Pora highlighted the college’s efforts towards transforming the students’ abilities into skills, opportunities and jobs.
The programme was also attended by SDM Noorabad Bashir ul Hassan, ACD, Bilal Ahmad Kamgar, CEO, Fayaz Ahmad Mir, CMO, Dr. Showkat Ahmad Party,faculty members, students and other officers and officials besides the students and residents.
On the occasion, Hilal Ahmed, a 1st Semester student of the college and Gold Medal winner in National Arm-Wrestling Competition, was felicitated.
