Srinagar, Oct 16: State Prabhari Officer for the Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir and Joint Secretary of DPIIT, Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Sumeet Kumar Jarangal, Friday virtually chaired a high-level review meeting to evaluate the implementation of the TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyan under the National Tuberculosis Elimination Programme (NTEP) in the UT of J&K.
The comprehensive review was attended by Mission Director NHM J&K, Athar Amir Shafi Ul Khan, along with the Director Health Services of Jammu and Kashmir, State Tuberculosis Officers (STOs), Chief Medical Officers (CMOs), District Tuberculosis Officers (DTOs) and Programme Management Unit NHM J&K.
Presenting the progress of the National Tuberculosis Elimination Programme across the Union Territory, Mission Director NHM J&K, highlighted the steady advancements made in grassroots screening, expansion of diagnostic networks, and enhanced tracking through the Ni-kshay portal. He underscored that the health administration is fully dedicated to optimizing field operations, strengthening differentiated TB care, and expanding nutritional support networks to drive down morbidity and mortality.
During the deliberations, the Prabhari Officer emphasized the crucial need to act as an effective bridge between the UT Government and the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoH&FW), Government of India, to proactively address and fulfill any program deficiencies. He highlighted that achieving a tuberculosis-free Jammu & Kashmir requires a whole-of-government and whole-of-society approach, driven by robust community participation (Jan Bhagidari), intensified screening in high-risk villages, and strengthened diagnostic infrastructure.
The meeting thoroughly reviewed key performance indicators, including population mapping, X-ray examination coverage in high-risk areas, utilization of diagnostic testing, prompt disbursement of nutritional support under the Ni-kshay Poshan Yojana (DBT), and the active involvement of Ni-kshay Mitras and MY Bharat volunteers. The chair urged all district units to bridge execution gaps and work with renewed vigor to meet the national targets for TB elimination.
