Srinagar, Oct 17: SSP Traffic City Srinagar Bisma Qazi on Saturday said that the traffic police have intensified enforcement against violations in Srinagar, stressing that the drive aims to ensure road safety and promote discipline among motorists.
Speaking to media persons during a traffic enforcement drive, SSP Bisma said that several violations are being detected daily, with driving without helmets, rash driving, triple riding, using mobile phones while driving and not wearing seat belts among the most common offences.
She said the enforcement measures were being undertaken primarily for the safety of motorists as well as pedestrians, adding that strict adherence to traffic rules was necessary to prevent accidents and develop responsible driving habits.
Bisma said the department was also focusing on awareness and counselling, particularly among adolescents who engage in rash driving and stunts without understanding the risks involved.
She said the parents of underage riders would be called and counselled against allowing their children to ride motorcycles at an early age, emphasising that such practices could endanger their lives and the safety of others.
SSP Traffic also stressed the need to ensure the safety of schoolchildren travelling in school transport vehicles, saying that the vehicles must comply with the prescribed guidelines, including the installation of cameras and the availability of fire extinguishers.
She said a private van being used for commercial purposes in violation of the applicable requirements had been seized during the enforcement drive.
Bisma said the traffic police were committed to ensuring the safety of all road users, including children, students, youngsters and elderly people, adding that enforcement would continue to strengthen traffic discipline in the city.
She also indicated that the department would work towards improving its enforcement mechanisms and addressing cyber-related concerns, including phishing emails and fraudulent websites, as part of its broader efforts. (JKNS)
