Srinagar, Oct 21: The Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) on Wednesday paid tribute to police personnel who attained martyrdom during 2026, as Special Director General (SDG), J&K Zone, Rajesh Kumar led the Police Commemoration Day observance at Group Centre Humhama in Srinagar.
Kumar presided over the solemn ceremony, laid a wreath at the Martyrs’ Memorial and read out the names of police personnel who sacrificed their lives in the line of duty during the year.
Addressing officers and personnel, Kumar highlighted the significance of Police Commemoration Day and paid tribute to the courage, valour and unwavering commitment of police personnel who made the supreme sacrifice while safeguarding the nation.
The ceremony honoured the selfless service of the fallen personnel and served as a reminder of the CRPF’s legacy of courage, sacrifice and devotion to duty.
Notably, Police Commemoration Day is observed every year on October 21 in memory of 10 CRPF personnel who laid down their lives in an ambush by heavily armed Chinese troops at Hot Springs in Ladakh on October 21, 1959. The day also honours all police personnel who attained martyrdom in the line of duty.
The programme featured a ceremonial ‘Salami Shastra’ at the Quarter Guard, reflecting the Force’s traditions of discipline and honour. The observance concluded with personnel renewing their pledge to uphold the highest traditions of the CRPF and continue serving the nation with courage, integrity and dedication.
The ceremony was attended by IG Srinagar Sector Pawan Kumar Sharma, DIGs Vivek Bhandral, Praveen Kumar Singh, Harvinder Singh Kales and Swapna G. Meshram, besides other officers and personnel of the Force. Similar commemorative roll calls and memorial gatherings were organised across CRPF units and formations throughout the country to honour the martyrs.
Meanwhile, the Union Home Minister also acknowledged the sacrifices of police personnel in safeguarding the country’s borders, sovereignty and internal security while addressing a gathering at the National Police Memorial in New Delhi. (KNO)
