Srinagar, Oct 29: Asserting that sacrifices continue to inspire efforts of Jammu and Kashmir Police to maintain peace and security, Director General of Police (DGP) Nalin Prabhat on Thursday said force is committed to mentor younger generation and help society in addressing social evils.
Addressing the closing ceremony of ‘Pedal Through Paradise 2026’, organised by J&K Police at Police Golf Course, Dal Lake, the DGP Prabhat, paid rich tributes to 1621 police martyrs and announced ‘Martyrs Memorial’ football and hockey tournaments in their honour.
He said, “Youth is an asset and the future of the nation. Their aspirations and participation in productive activities are important for the overall progress of society and the country’s economic development.”
DGP Prabhat said, “Sports provide young people with an opportunity to develop discipline, fitness and a sense of responsibility.”
The DGP said that more and more youth engagement, more and more sporting activity are a prerequisite for a very healthy, heartening and prosperous Jammu and Kashmir.
DGP Prabhat said cycling is not merely a symbol of a healthy lifestyle but it also helps in instilling discipline among participants.
He said excessive mobile phone use and screen addiction have become a concern across the world, affecting individual health and society, adding that participation in sports could help young people develop healthier habits.
The DGP said the police, in coordination with the administration, have been organising sporting events at the district level to encourage wider youth participation.
Referring to recent events, he said participation in the Kashmir Marathon had been encouraging, while ‘Jashn-e-Dal’ also witnessed participation from women and young people.
DGP Prabhat said the upcoming sporting calendar included Martyrs Memorial football and hockey tournaments to honour police personnel who laid down their lives in the line of duty and encourage young people to participate in sports.
The cycling event was organised by J&K Police to promote fitness, discipline and a healthy lifestyle among young people. (KNO)
