Jammu, Nov 4: Jammu and Kashmir Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Kumar Choudhary on Wednesday accused the BJP of trying to weaken the National Conference (NC), alleging that the party had misled Srinagar MP Aga Syed Ruhullah Mehdi.
Reacting to Ruhullah’s resignation from the NC, Choudhary, said the party had consistently maintained that the BJP was attempting to create divisions within it.
Referring to reported remarks by senior BJP leader Ram Madhav after Ruhullah’s programme, Choudhary said Madhav had claimed that people attending the event were sent by the BJP.
“If Ram Madhav himself is saying that his people attended Aga Sahib’s programme, then why are you questioning us? BJP should clarify its position,” Choudhary told reporters.
Describing Ruhullah as a decent and honourable person, the Deputy Chief Minister alleged that the BJP had misled him and sought an explanation for Madhav’s remarks.
Choudhary also accused the BJP of creating confusion through contradictory statements.
Dismissing speculation about a possible political formation involving former Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad, Ruhullah and Engineer Rashid, he said there was no basis for such reports and urged the media to focus on substantive issues rather than political speculation. (KNO)
