Srinagar, Nov 6: The Department of Posts has extended the working hours of Srinagar’s iconic Floating Post Office at Nehru Park on Dal Lake, which will now remain open from 9 am to 9 pm daily.
The 12-hour schedule follows the public response to extended working hours at the Lal Chowk Head Post Office, which also operates from 9 am to 9 pm.
Chief Postmaster General Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh Sagar Hanuman Singh, accompanied by Director Postal Services Prateek and Senior Superintendent of Post Offices Srinagar Division Adam Mohi U Din, visited the floating facility to review its services and interact with customers and tourists.
The department said the extended timings were introduced in view of the considerable footfall at Nehru Park and demand for postal services beyond regular office hours.
Officials said the move is intended to improve access for local residents, tourists, houseboat operators and other visitors who use the facility.
The Floating Post Office is both a working postal facility and a distinctive attraction on Dal Lake. The department is also exploring the possibility of extending working hours at other post offices in the region. [KNT]
