Srinagar, Nov 7: Weatherman on Saturday said that Jammu and Kashmir is likely to witness a spell of rain and snowfall from November 12 onwards as a Western Disturbance is expected to affect the region.
An official of the Meteorological Centre Srinagar said that weather is expected to remain generally dry on November 8 and 9, while generally cloudy conditions are likely to prevail on November 10 and 11. “Light spell of rain over plains and light snowfall over higher reaches at scattered places is expected towards on the evening or night of November 10,” he added.
“Weather will remain generally cloudy on November 12 and 13, with light to moderate rain in plains and light to moderate snowfall over higher reaches at many places, particularly towards the evening or night of November 12,” the official said.
A separate prediction issued by Kashmir Weather Forecast also indicated that the second Western Disturbance has gained intensity and is likely to affect Jammu and Kashmir between November 12 and 14.
It said moderate to heavy snowfall is possible over higher reaches, while rain is expected over the plains of Jammu and Kashmir.
The forecast further indicated the possibility of the season’s first snowfall in Gulmarg, Sonamarg, Doodhpathri and the plains of Pahalgam.
According to the forecast, higher reaches of Kupwara and Bandipora may receive moderate snowfall, while higher reaches of central and south Kashmir are likely to receive light to moderate snowfall.
Weather is expected to improve thereafter, with partly cloudy conditions forecast for November 14 and 15.
Meanwhile, the MeT has advised farmers to continue harvesting and other agricultural operations until November 10 and ensure the safe storage of harvested crops.
Travellers and transporters have been advised to plan their journeys accordingly, as fresh snowfall over higher reaches may disrupt traffic on important mountain passes and hilly roads. The forecast has also indicated the possibility of thunder and gusty winds at a few places between November 10 and 12.
Meanwhile, day temperatures remained above normal across most weather stations in Jammu and Kashmir on Friday.
According to the MeT’s daily weather bulletin, Srinagar recorded a maximum temperature of 23.2 degrees Celsius, which was 5.9 degrees above the seasonal average, while the minimum settled at 2.0 degrees Celsius.
