Even as the health department termed the reports about the outbreak of jaundice in Habba Kadal locality as baseless, the local populace has claimed that several children in Gadood Bagh locality here have been suffering from the ailment, thus putting a question mark over the claims of the concerned authorities. One fails to understand the difference between the two statements. In case the outbreak of jaundice in the locality is baseless, the million dollar question remains how the children in the locality have got infected in the last couple of weeks. Besides, the people have been also questioning the announcements made through the local Masjid loudspeakers, asking people to drink only boiled water and not to drink direct tap water. The samples were also collected by the concerned department officials following which they have urged people not to drink direct tap water. There are people who question the testing of samples collected from the locality at a time when several children have been suffering from jaundice in the locality. There is a need to collect samples again to ascertain the facts and ensure that the health of every citizen in the locality, especially the children is not at risk. The health department has the responsibility to come up with a fresh report so that the people could take preventive measures well on time and follow the guidelines to prevent their kids from getting affected by the disease. Moreover, the people should refrain from drinking direct tap water and only consume boiled water for their wellbeing.
