Work on oxygen plants in full swing

'Several plants functional, rest to be completed in coming days'

Srinagar, Apr 30: The work on all oxygen plants which were recently approved by the government of J&K is going on in full swing and are expected to be completed in the coming few days.

A top mechanical engineering wing official said the work on oxygen plants at SKIMS, GB Pant Hospital Srinagar, LD hospital, SMHS and all other major hospitals of Kashmir Valley is going on in full swing.

“Some plants have already been completed while as work on other plants are going on day and night at full pace,” an official said.

An official said that one unit of oxygen plant at JLNM has been commissioned by which oxygen capacity of the hospital has increased by 1000 litres per minute while as work on other unit with the capacity of 1000 litres per minute is going on.

An official said that oxygen plants with the capacity of 1000 litres per minute have been installed and commissioned at SDH Kupwara, SDH Sopore, District Hospital Pulwama, District Hospital Shopian and the same are functional.

“Other oxygen generation plants at District hospital Kulgam and District hospital Ganderbal have been installed and are expected to be put to use in two days,” an official said.

Moreover, the plants with the capacity of 500 litres per minute are being  installed at Trauma Hospital Bijbehara and SDH Chanapora and shall be functional within the next five days.

An official said that within one week all 36 plants approved by the government will get completed.

All other relevant works like plant room construction, medical gas pipeline system, DG sets, electrical substations have already been completed across all the hospitals and made functional already.

The overall plan of getting Oxygen generation plants was conceived by Mechanical Engineers of Health Department and Mechanical Engineering Department with the doctors of the Health department and GMC Srinagar about 7 months ago when the first Covid wave was at its peak.

President JKMEGA Er Ferdous Ahad Bhat  said that engineering community feel pride in serving mechanical engineering in J&K.

Bhat said Mechanical engineering in J&K needs to be utilised for full service in all departments of Jal Shakti, hospital services, disaster management, municipal corporations, smart city projects for better public service.

He praised all mechanical Fraternity especially Er Rashid Ahamed Dar ( CE MED), Er Sanjay Sharma ( SE MED ) , Er Mubashir Naqshbandi ( Xen Hospital Divisions ) , AEE and team of JE’s for working day night in tough times.

“I appeal LG for utilisation of Mechanical Engineering to fullest in the development of Jammu and Kashmir,” Bhat said.
