Kupwara, Dec 21: The army Tuesday objected to the construction by Pakistani rangers on another side of the border at Teethwal in Karnah sector stating for any such construction “a general protocol is to be followed and unless prior intimation either of sides can’t undertake such works.”
Teethwal is famously known for its Teethwal crossing bridge located on the Kishanganga river in the Karnah sector in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district.
Teethwal village falls at the Zero Line of Control in the sector and the site in recent after the fresh ceasefire agreement in February this year is visited by a lot of people.
A senior official said that activities were noticed from another side of the border and accordingly response was initiated by the Indian Army to stop the “unwarranted activity by Pakistani rangers close to the Line of Control (LoC).”
He said that it was observed that the Pakistani rangers were undertaking some construction of a structure that was responded to by the Indian Army and by objecting to it in the required manner.
Announcements were made to them on loudspeakers telling them to stop the construction, he said.
A senior official said that there is a set protocol and either of the sides can not undertake any construction close to the Line of Control (LoC) without any prior intimation.
He said that they were constructing it within a 500 meters radius of LoC which is objectionable.
An official also said that local representatives and residents also made verbal announcements on speakers to them to stop the construction.
The official further said that the construction was stopped by them when it was objected to by the Army.
Noteworthy, the recent ceasefire agreement between the two countries has ignited new hopes and peace among the local population with people saying that the special occasions have returned to the borders and they are living without any untimely threat to their lives.
