Baramulla fully prepared to combat Covid-19: DC

Baramulla, Jan 10: The Deputy Commissioner (DC) Baramulla, Bhupinder Kumar Monday said that by virtue of the extraordinary efforts of Health staff besides quality health infrastructure and with the cooperation of general public, district Baramulla is fully prepared to combat the situation that may arise due to Covid-19 here.
The DC said this while briefing media on the Covid-19 situation in the district and added that the situation is strictly monitored at the district level.
He said that 180 new cases were found last week while about 40 cases are being reported daily in the district since the last three days. He added that may be the positivity rate can increase in the coming days, so all the necessary arrangements have been made to tackle the situation.
Regarding testing process, the DC briefed that 3500 to 4000 RTPC and other rapid tests are being performed at GMC Baramulla on daily basis and the administration is trying utmost to make early detection of the cases so that the virus will not affect others.
Secondly, in order to control the disease, necessary SOPs and Covid Appropriate Behaviour are being implemented in letter and spirit across the district, for this purpose, the DC appealed to the general public to wear face masks and avoid unnecessary traveling and attending huge and crowded gatherings.
The DC further said that with a view to handle the increasing situation, Oxygen beds capacity has been increased as against during the 2nd wave which was less than 1000 lpm and is now touching to 6000. Moreover, about 1200 concentrators plus bulk cylinders are available in the district.
In terms of bed availability, Oxygen availability and other infrastructure, the district is in a better position as compared to the first and second wave of the pandemic, the DC added.
The DC appealed to the religious leaders, traders and other prominent citizens to put their efforts and make the common people aware about the Covid-19 SOPs.
Meanwhile, the precautionary Dose of vaccination drive for front line workers was launched across the district today under which people above 60 year age group are being vaccinated. The drive was started at medical block Baramulla where Chief Medical Officer Dr. Bashir Ahmed Malik took the precautionary dose.
