The Kashmir region of Jammu and Kashmir Union Territory is yet again witnessing a frequent and additional power cuts from the last over one month with officials of Power Development Department (PDD) claiming that overload and misuse of electricity is forcing them to go for the additional power cuts. However, the power cuts have gone up by half and hour to one hour as the 400 KV transmission feeder line at Thanamandi has developed technical snag. The officials concerned had informed that there is every possibility of additional curtailment and that such a situation would continue for the next ten days till the transmission feeder line at Thanamandi is repaired. The situation is being witnessed at a time when the government has already resorted to power cuts for the last over month here, which has left the consumers to lurch at large. The people, especially the students have been facing immense hardships due to the frequent power cuts as they are not able to study and thus hampering their education as well. One fails to understand how long the people of Kashmir are supposed to face such a situation, which is adding to the miseries of common Kashmiris during the winter period when the demand of electricity increases manifold. But, in the present juncture, the government should consider repairing the transmission feeder line at Thanamandi at an earliest so that the additional power cuts are put to an end and the people here could heave a sigh of relief.
