Pulwama, Feb 12: The residents of Baddalo Khrew area of Pampore hamlet in Kashmir’s Pulwama are set to get drinking water facilities for the first time in several decades.
The people of the area had been facing a shortage of drinking water since decades but no attention was being given towards the issue.
“We were forced to drink contaminated water in the absence of potable water and our repeated pleas to concerned officials were falling deaf on their ears,” they said.
They also said that there is no proper road connectivity to the area due to which they are suffering.
Locals further said that unscheduled power supply is prevalent in the area besides that a school is working in the area which has only one teacher.
They added that during emergencies like delivery cases, they are suffering a lot in absence of proper road connectivity.
Locals said that they have brought these issues in notice of higher ups several times but to no avail
They had urged LG Administration and District Administration to look into the matter and provide basic facilities to the area so that they too can live their lives happily.
Soon after the news was carried, district commissioner Pulwama took cognizance of the issue and sanctioned 7.5 lakh rupees for construction of borewell in the area on which work has been already started.
Locals of the area thanked Deputy Commissioner Pulwama and Tehsildar Pampore for taking cognizance of the issue.
Tehsildar Ishtiyak Mohidin who himself visited the area on Saturday said that all the issues of the area were brought in notice of concerned authorities and very soon these issues will be redressed.
He said that a water tanker is being sent to the area on a daily basis as a temporary arrangement and construction of the borewell has been started and will be completed very soon.
