Anantnag, May 8: Batpora Khadar village in South Kashmir’s Anantnag district lacks basic facilities as the village has no connectivity with rest of the district.
Locals said the area has been neglected by successive governments and is far behind in development on all fronts.
“During election campaign all politicians come and promise that they will get all facilities but once elections are over they never visit the area again,” they said.
Locals said that despite a lapse of more than ten years the Roads and Buildings (R&B) department has failed to complete a vital Batpora-Khadar bridge.
“The project approved in 2011 is nowhere near completion as even 50 percent of the works have not been completed so far,” they said.
Following the failure of the authorities to complete the bridge, strong resentment is brewing among the locals against the inordinate delay in completion of the project.
Locals said that in absence of the Batpora-Khadar bridge, they are facing a lot of problems but no attention is being given towards the grave issue.
Mohammad Iqbal, a local resident said that politicians come only during election campaigns and once they get elected they forget everything and leave the people of the upper belt on God’s mercy.
He said that several people have died while crossing the rivulet in absence of the bridge.
Locals said that they have been moving from pillar to post to get their issues resolved, however, except false assurances they haven’t got nothing.
“The government must see the plight of the poor people living in the area and complete the bridge as they have to carry the ill and the elderly ones on shoulders to hospital,” they said.
Locals said the village which comprises over 150 households is far behind development and lacks all basic facilities.
Locals requested LG led administration to look into the matter at the earliest so that locals can heave a sigh of relief.
