Hike in airfares- Govt’s intervention pivotal

The unprecedented hike in airfares has yet again pushed the people to the wall while the claims being made by the government with regard to ensuring everything streamlined has fallen flat as the people, who used to travel by air are being looted by the aircraft companies. Amid the steep rise in tourist arrival in Jammu and Kashmir, the airfare has almost doubled to and from Srinagar International airport, which is set to affect the tourism sector as well as the common travelers. Such a measure has always been witnessed whenever the season or demand of air tickets remains high. One fails to understand why the government is not able to ensure justified airfares. There are people who blamed the officials concerned for allowing the hike in airfares by remaining hand-in-glove. Such allegations are necessary to be probed and ensure that the facts are brought to the public. The abrupt hike in airfares needs to be looked into thoroughly as the business community here has raised the objections and urged the Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha led administration to intervene. There is a need to ensure justified airfares as the hike in airfare is set to decline the tourist footfall and subsequently led to the sufferings of people affiliated with the sector, who have already faced hardships during the dry season for the nearly three years.
