Eminent professor at Kashmir University succumbs to Covid-19

Srinagar, May 16: Eminent Professor and senior scientist who was presently serving as senior Professor at Department of Electronics Kashmir University Prof. Ghulam Mohiuddin Bhat passed away at Rainawari Hospital Srinagar due to Covid-19 complications.
His colleagues said he had been admitted at JLNM hospital after testing positive for Covid-19 two weeks ago, but due to complications, he could not survive.
“He along with his wife and daughter were tested positive for Covid-19. Prof. Bhat was taken to SKIMS Soura in the University Ambulance where doctors referred him to Rainawari Hospital,” one of the colleagues of Prof Ghulam Mohiuddin Bhat told news agency Kashmir News Trust.
Prof. Tasleema, the wife of the deceased is currently the Head, Department of Education at Kashmir University.
Prof Bhat had also served as Dean and Director of Engineering College at Zakura Campus of Kashmir University.
A medico said that Prof. Bhat succumbed to Covid-19 during the intervening night of May 15 and 16. “Earlier, he had shown some improvement but last night his Oxygen level dropped to 30 and he didn’t survive,” he said.
“It is a big loss for not only the University but to the whole Kashmir. Prof. Bhat was an eminent scientist in electronics and his contributions are commendable,” said a Professor who added that several teaching and non-teaching staff at University are infected with Covid-19 but no due care is taken of them.
Bhat is the recipient of two patents for his electro-mechanical cassette player and novel techniques for plus code modulation in 2003.
The deceased at present was the 3rd senior most Professor at Kashmir University. He had been recruited in 1985 and was an eminent scientist.
Prof. Ghulam Mohiuddin Bhat was the resident of Safapora Ganderbal who presently was residing at University Quarters in the Main Campus.
Pertinently, on 7 May this month, a former Technical Officer at Department of Pharmaceutical Kashmir University died of Covid-19 infection while earlier a senior former driver of former Vice Chancellor along with his wife succumbed to Covid-19. (KNT)
