Recommendations must be implemented in spirit

From time to time, the government has been issuing advisory with regard to the fixes limit on bag weight for students; however, the ground reality is always different from the recommendations as the little students are being forced to carry heavy weight bags to the schools, which is not only hectic for them, but overburden as well. In yet another directions issued by the School Education department, it has been recommended that the weight of school bags for KG students from of classes I and II shall not have more than 1.6 KGs to 2.2 KGs for students of Classes I and II while for Classes III, IV and V, it should be 1.7 to 2.5 kg. It has been recommended that only 2 to 3 kg for Classes VI and VII, 2.5 to 4 kg for Class VIII, 2.5 to 4.5 kg for Classes IX and X and 3.5 to 5 kg for Classes XI and XI1 shall be allowed. However, one fails to understand the lymphatic attitude shown by the concerned agencies so far in ensuring the implementation of recommendations on the ground. It seems that the directions are being made only to hoodwink the people while the students are being pushed to the wall by forcing them to carry heavy weight school bags on their shoulders. There is a need to ensure that the fresh recommendations are implemented in letter and spirit, otherwise issuing the advisories would make no sense in the near future, therefore it becomes imperative to take necessary measures in this regard and take strict actions against the schools, who are found violating the set norms.
