Pulwama, July 16: Around eight months after Naina-Awantipora via Dogripora road was macadamized after it developed cracks, it has again got damaged raising questions over the use of the material on the road.
Locals from Kawani, Dogripora and its adjoining areas on Saturday alleged that macadam was laid on the road after around a decade in 2020 but it didn’t last for six months.
After locals protest, road was again macadamized at some spots where it has developed cracks but road has again developed cracks there
They said that soon after the macadamisation the road rutted at multiple spots and grooves surfaced all over the road.
They said that the conditions of the road at maximum places are like it has never been macadmised ever.
“The road is again in a very dilapidated condition at some spots and is giving a very tough time to the commuters as well the passersby,” Tariq Ahmad a local resident said.
He said a matter must be investigated and action must be taken against the erring officials.
Locals accused PMGSY of using substandard materials due to which the blacktopping suffered erosion in no time.
“They had macadamised the road only three inches deep instead of eight inches,” said a local, Aijaz Ahmad.
He said that Naina-Awantipora is a vital road on which hundreds of vehicles ply each day.
The residents of the area appealed to higher ups of the PMGSY department to look into the matter and take erring officials to task.
Meanwhile, officials said that spots where it has developed cracks will be macadamized again in the coming week.
