Fixing rates hardly matters

Yet again the intervention of the Directorate of Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs (FCS&CA) Kashmir would seemingly find no takers on the ground as happened in the past. The department has come up with the fresh rates with regard to the hair cutting in the valley. However, the saloons as well as the non-local barbers have always been found not adhering to the rates fixed by the department. Nonetheless, the revision of the rates would certainly not be obeyed as the concerned department never starts a massive drive to check whether the orders are being implemented. One fails to understand how the saloons would be able to obey the orders when there is no one to ensure the orders are followed in letter and spirit. It is unfortunate that such orders from time to time are being issued only to hoodwink people that the departments are working for the betterment of the general public while the situation on the ground remains always contrary. The order majority of the times remain confined to the papers while the implementation goes for a toss, thereby such directives and fixing of rates fails to appease the common people, who knew that the orders will not be ensured on the ground. It is the time when the concerned department should take steps in this regard and ensure that its directives are adhered to in letter and spirit so that the people here could heave a sigh of relief and the trust is gained again.
