Srinagar, Aug 4: Water scarcity has hit the residents of Iqbal Sector, Zafran Colony in Pantha Chowk area of Srinagar, as a motor at the watershed has developed a technical a snag, residents said here on Thursday.
Residents of Iqbal Sector, Lane 2, Zafran Colony said that acute water shortage has hit their area for the past few days as there is no drinking water supply and they have to travel to other areas to fetch drinking water.
“We don’t get 24 hour water supply and used to get water from 11 am to 2 pm every day,” said Muad Ashraf, a local resident, adding that despite the fact the area is part of Srinagar city, still there is no drinking water supply available.
Many women of the area also complained about non-availability of drinking water. “Officials of Jal Shakhti department make tall claims about laying new pipes and making water available 24 hours but on ground all seems fake,” they alleged.
When contacted, Shabir Ahmed, a local lineman of Jal Shakhti department said the motar at the water shed has developed a technical snag, which is why water supply got affected.
Jal Shakti department officials said that the motor at the well near Masjid-e-Aisha (RA) Zafran Colony, developed technical snag some six months ago. “Same was conveyed to the Mechnical Wing of the department, but nothing happened. Penal box and blade of the mortar has got damaged. Once it will be repaired, the water supply will be provided to the Iqbal Sector Lane 2 and other adjoining areas,” they saiaid.
Meanwhile, locals appealed to Chief Engineer Kashmir Jal Shakti department, concerned JE and Executive Engineer to look into the matter and resolve the issue at the earliest.
