4 killed, 33 injured in twin Rajouri accidents

Rajouri, Sep 15: A day after tragic accident at Poonch claimed 12 lives, four people were killed and 33 others sustained injuries in twin road accidents that took place at Rajouri district on Thursday.
Officials said that early morning, a bus bearing registration number JK02CD 9156 was on way from Surankote area of Poonch to Jammu was moving on Jammu-Rajouri-Poonch national highway and at around 11:50 AM, driver of bus lost his control over the vehicle and it plunged in a deep gorge at Deri Ralyote falling under the jurisdiction of Manjakote police station.
“The ill-fated vehicle plunged in roadside in 300 feet deep gorge at Deri Ralyote in which four people got killed on the spot,” he said, adding that “Soon after this accident, local population responded and started rescue of injured with teams of police, army and civil administration reached at the accident site shortly and half a dozen ambulances of health department and army were pressed in rescue operation.”
They stated that 26 injured were rescued from the spot and taken to Primary Health Center Manjakote from where fifteen of the injured were referred to GMC Associated Hospital Rajouri where fourteen of the injured are under treatment while one of the injured was later referred to GMC Jammu.
Deceased have been identified by police as bus driver Harshid Choudhary (26) son of Surinder Kumar resident of Chowki Nowshera, bus conductor Ravaiz Iqbal son of Mohammad Iqbal resident of Draba Surankote, Mohammad Jahangir Khan son of Mohammad Riaz Khan resident of Dharati Mendhar and Noushada Akhter wife of Mohammad Sajid resident of Dabrote.
Injured have been identified as Aftaj son of Mohd Ashraf resident of Surankote, Mohd Sajjad son of Haqnawaz resident of Panjgrian, Nazir Shah son of Ali Akbar resident of Samote Surankote, Tasveer Begum wife of Mohd Riaz Khan resident of Dharati Mendhar, Maqsood Ahmed son of Mohd Khurashed resident of Marhote Surankote, Afraz Ahmed son of Niaz Ahmed resident of Fazlabad Surankote, Mohd Shakoor son of Mohd Sadeeq resident of Dodassan Bala, Shamshir Ahmed son of Mohd Bashir resident Bhatian, Zabaida Begum wife of Niaz Ahmed resident of Fazlabad Surankote, Mohd Sharif son of Mohd Shafi resident of Dehri Ralyote, Nazir Ahmed son of Mohd Wazir Bhatti resident of Marhote Surankote, Naheed Akhter wife of Aurangzeb resident of Dhargaloon Mendhar, Mohd Sagar son of Mohd Rashid Khan resident of Fazlabad Surankote, Ishfaq Ahmed son of Haqnawaz resident of Thandapani Manjakote, Zensha daughter of Aurangzeb resident of Dhargloon Mendhar, Shamim Akhter daughter of Mohd Akram resident of Kotaan Mendhar, Mohd Akram resident of Kotan Mendhar, Mia Mohd son of Hamida resident of Fagla Surankote, Mohd Tariq son of Mehdi Hussain resident of Muradabad UP, Mohd Rashid Khan son of Alyas Khan resident of Fagla Surankote, Sharoon Mir son of Mohd Sadeeq resideht of Kotan Mendhar and three others.
Meanwhile, seven people were injured on Thursday when a private vehicle they were travelling in met with an accident in Rajouri district, officials said.
They said the Ecco vehicle (JK11F-4374) fell into gorge near Mehar-Gali Kandi this morning, leading to the injuries to seven people. Soon after the accidents, they said, locals and police rushed to the spot and shifted them to a local health facility.
The injured have been identified as Basharat Ahmad (40), his wife Guddi Begum (35), their daughter Mehreen Koser (14), Dilshad (13) son of Mohammad Manjoor, Mohammad Suleman, Gulnaz Akhter (17) and Saida Tabassum(50). Four patients have been referred to GMC Rajouri for specialized treatment while three others are admitted in Community Health Centre.
J&K LG Manoj Sinha expressed grief over the loss of lives. He tweeted: “Anguished by the loss of lives due to a tragic accident in Rajouri. In this hour of grief, my thoughts are with the bereaved families. May the injured recover at the earliest. The district admin is providing all possible assistance.”
