Drugs threaten future generations

The beautification of world famous Dal Lake and the illegal encroachment of interiors of the water body can never help in achieving the goal that has been set by the government to preserve the water body for the next generations. A report claims that despite a ban on the construction in the interiors of the Dal Lake and its adjoining vicinities, illegal constructions in these areas are galore. The lake is facing an existential crisis and witnessing illegal construction in broad daylight. Such a report is putting the question mark over the efforts being made by the government to beautify and preserve Dal Lake. At this juncture, the government should press for ensuring no constructions within the non-permissible zone in and around the Dal Lake as such happenings would never help in preserving the water body and could only create hurdles in the way of preserving the water body. Therefore, it is the time when the concerned authorities should be tasked to come up with the massive drives against the illegal constructions happening in the interiors of the Dal Lake besides the ongoing work of beautifying the water body. The concerned agency should constitute the teams to visit all the areas in the interiors of Dal Lake to take stringent action against the illegal encroachments and constructions coming up there so that the motive and the work behind going for massive cleanliness drive will prove fruitful.
