Srinagar, Nov 16: President of Jammu & Kashmir Peoples Conference Sajad Gani Lone on Wednesday said the dacoits of 1987 are responsible for filling graveyards in Kashmir.
Beginning his second inning as head of the 44-year-old Peoples Conference, Lone said the rigging of 1987 polls is responsible for bloodshed in Kashmir.
“The dacoits of 1987 are the main culprits. They are responsible for filling graveyards in Kashmir. Our hundreds of workers were jailed and booked under PSA in 1987,”Lone said.
The PC president said those who punished youngsters and sent them to Kathua and Hira Nagar jails cannot represent Kashmiris.
“Farooq Abdullah made his son Omar Abdullah Chief Minister but sent another Kashmiri Yasin Malik to jail in 1987 for supporting Muslim United Front. Farooq Abdullah registered nine FIRs against Yasin Malik and sent him to jail. He is still in jail,” he said.
Lone said those who questioned National Conference from time to time labelled as agents of New Delhi.
“When my father Abdul Gani Lone, Jamaat-e-Islamia and Muslim United Front questioned them, they were dubbed as agents of New Delhi. Those who were labelled as agents of New Delhi spent their lives in jails,” he said.
Lone said that leadership in the present “challenging times means rising up to the occasion and rescuing the Kashmiris.”
“The leadership has to save the youth from bullets and jails,” he said.
Lone further asserted that People’s Conference is the party that has the legacy of sacrifice and will continue to strive to accord people a dignified way of living.
“We will make every effort to promote political inclusiveness and tirelessly strive to restore and retrieve the glorious political legacy that the people of J&K deserve. A unique legacy which we all cherished and zealously guarded for so long. We will do what it takes to ensure that legacy is restored,” he added
The top leadership of the party which was present on the occasion include Abdul Gani Vakil, Imran Reza Ansari, Nizamudin Bhat, Syed Mansoor Hussain, Mir Mohammad Fayaz, Nazir Laway, Adv Bashir Ahmed Dar, Abid Hussain Ansari, Khursheed Alam, Raja Aijaz Ali, Mohammad Abbas Wani, Yasir Reshi, Mohammad Ashraf Mir, Hilal Rather, Irfan Ansari, Irfan Panditpori, Haji Farooq Ahmed, Najeeb Naqvi,Ghulam Muhammad Khan, Bashir Ahmed Chalkoo, Kaneez Fatima, Adnan Ashraf Mir, Mir Hafeezullah, Rasheed Mehmood, Irfan Mattoo, Rashid Lone, Mushtaq Ahmed Lone, Asif Lone, Adv Saleem Parray, Rydham Singh among others.
