Budgam, Dec 5: SKUAST-K and KVK Budgam Monday celebrated the ‘World Soil Day’ with the theme “Soils, Where Food Begins”, with farmers of the district and Extension functionaries.
The Senior Scientist and Head KVK Budgam, Dr. Bilal Ahmad Lone in his inaugural speech gave thrust upon the importance of natural resources (soil) and how to preserve it for future generations.
Sharik Ahmad, JAEO soil testing lab Budgam spoke about the importance of soil in our lives and judicial application of fertilizers.
Dr. Aamir from DARS SKUAST–K interacted with farmers regarding Soil Health Management, while Dr. Shazia Ramzan briefed the audience about scientific methods of soil sampling
Basharat Ahmad, who has been running a Private Soil Testing Laboratory at Khag, in the district, for the last two years, shared his personal experience of Soil Testing as a profitable employment opportunity in the District.
The event was attended by more than 60 farmers of the district and scientists of this Kendra. 50 Soil health cards were distributed on spot to the farmers on the occasion.
