Keep Kashmir connected

In yet another instance of crime against women, a lady was murdered by the brother-in-law at Pampore area in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district, leaving the society puzzled and shocked. Though in a swift action, police have arrested the accused in this regard in a short span on time. It is not for the first time that such event has taken place in the Valley, but from time to time, the women from different parts across Kashmir have been seen making statements and approaching police to seek justice. There are dozens of incidents when the women were seen either committing suicide or were murdered by the in-laws after facing harassment for years together. Such incidents in the Valley is putting a huge responsibility in the shoulders of religious clerics, local Behbood committees and the Police as well to ensure that such happenings are out to an immediate end. There are hundreds of such cases pending at different places like courts, shariyat courts as well as in the women’s commission here. At this juncture, the saner voices need to come forward and ensure that the domestic violence is put to an immediate end and the religious clerics need to play a key role in this regard so that the people within the society are sensitized and made aware about the religious teachings about the issue. Moreover, there is a need to take strict action against the involved persons so that nobody could dare to get involved in such criminal acts in the future.
