Bandipora, Mar 2: Four villages in Kanzalwan area of Gurez Valley in north Kashmir’s Bandipora district are reeling under darkness for the past one month after a generator supplying electricity to the villages developed a snag, locals complained here on Thursday.
The locals said that the local administration has failed to repair the generator for the past one month, thereby adding to the sufferings in harsh winters to the people.
“Without electricity people are facing a lot of inconvenience. Even though we are not able to charge our mobiles,” the locals said, adding that people spending sleepless nights in absence of power supply.
They said that the students have to face the maximum brunt as they are the worst sufferers due to lack of electricity in the village for the past one month. “We have no other option but to use firewood to make our children prepare for exams,” said one of the locals.
The residents of Wanpora in the Gurez have accused administration of failing to repair the damaged Genset of the area consisting of four villages for several weeks thus forcing the villagers to reel under darkness.
Meanwhile, the locals appealed to Deputy Commissioner Bandipora Owais Ahamd to personally look into the matter and help to resolve their grievances.
Notably, the Gurez region depends on diesel-set generated power supply for several hours while the government is working on a project to get Gurez Valley connected with grid stations in Bandipora for regular electricity.
Sub-Divisional Magistrate, Gurez, Mudasir Ahmad said that some parts which had developed faults will be removed and shifted to Bandipora for repair. “However it hasn’t happened due to unfavorable weather for the last several days,” he said.
About the Wanpora area, he said that new equipment was brought from Srinagar a few days ago for the generator. “That however, didn’t get fixed. Now the same will be replaced shortly,” he said. (KNO)
