Sopore, Mar 25: Authorities in north Kashmir’s Sopore town shifted the child care functioning from Mother and Child hospital to Sub district hospital with the officials stating that the building was lacking facilities.
Block Medical Officer (BMO) Sopore Dr Zulfiqar Sofi said that keeping in view the medical necessities and with the condition of the MCH building in shambles, the OPD for maternal and childcare operations has been shifted to Sub district hospital Sopore.
He said that the step was taken in view of the issues being faced by the people and long pending demand.
“Earlier we shifted the labour room and theatre of this child care hospital to one of the new building at SDH Sopore. Patients were supposed to go to the SDH as the Lab, X-ray, USG, CT and physician consultation facilities were already in place,“ the BMO said.
Meanwhile, patients hailed the move and said that the step was the need of the hour.
“Despite sharing a huge caseload of patients from various south Kashmir districts, Maternity and Childcare Hospital (MCH) Sopore was lacking infrastructure, besides lacking the facilities, leaving the patients in disarray”, said Fayaz Ahmed, a local.
Hundreds of patients visiting the hospital relating to maternity and child care were facing severe hardships.
