Keep Kashmir connected

The cyber frauds have been increasing in Jammu & Kashmir like the other parts of the country, but what needs to be done is to ensure that no secret documents, data or passwords are shared with the unknown people in any way. As far as the reports are concerned, the Kashmir Valley has witnessed 2145 cases with regard to cyber fraud at Cyber Police Station Kashmir Zone in the past three years while as the highest number of such cases were reported in last year with 948 cases. The mounting number of cases is testimony to the fact that more and more people have been falling prey to these fraudsters, which needs to be put to an immediate end. At this juncture, the Cyber Police has been making tremendous efforts to fight against the fraudsters and ensure that the amount lost by the complainants is recovered. The reports suggest that an amount to the tune of Rs 4.49 crores have been recovered in connection with the different fraud cases registered by different persons in the past three years. Cyber Police Station has recovered Rs 4.9 crore in the last 3 years, the highest Rs 2.97 crore have been recovered in 2022, Rs 1.10 crore in 2021 and Rs 42 lakh in 2020. Moreover, the Cyber Police Station has registered 59 FIRs from 2020 to 2022 in connection with cyber fraud cases. As per the data, 8 FIRs were registered in 2020, 24 in 2021, and 27 FIRs in 2022. Such a situation is alarming and the people need to take all the precautions while using the social media platforms or receiving the fraud calls by the unknown people. Besides, the secret documents including the passwords must not be shared with anyone to avoid any such fraud with them.
