Srinagar, Jun 12: Several local and non-local children, who were forced into begging, were rescued on Monday in the Parimpora area of Srinagar, officials said.
An official said that the Child Protection Welfare Team conducted a raid in Parimpora and rescued several non-local and local children. These children had been allegedly coerced into begging by some brokers.
Talking to the media on the sidelines of the rescue drive, Labour Officer Aliya stated that a rescue operation took place in Parimpora, Srinagar on the occasion of Anti Child-labour Day in which some local children, non-local children as well as beggars were rescued.
“We have successfully rescued around seven to eight children, who have been handed over to the Child Protection Team. Additionally, we will hold counselling sessions with their parents to ensure a bright future for them,” she added. “The drive is aimed at rescuing both local and non-local children involved in begging, whether they are working in dhabas, hotels, or as conductors. Every child laborer will be rescued and handed over to the Child Welfare Department.”
Meanwhile, a senior police official said that the Juvenile Justice Board and Srinagar Police jointly conducted the rescue operation.
He stated that several children from Parimpora and many others from different areas were rescued.
