Revisit decision

As it has been decided that the government will not fix and interfere in the mutton rates in the Valley, there has been abrupt change in the rates within the markets. However, for the first time, the Valley, especially Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu & Kashmir, is witnessing no markets for the sacrificial animals where the people used to buy and sell the sacrificial animals ahead of the Muslim festival—Eid-ul-Adha. The absence of the Mandi or market for sacrificial animals has been pushing the people to the wall as they are finding it difficult to buy the sacrificial animals in the markets. There are people who question the delay in setting up the mandatory market in Srinagar and elsewhere and have apprehensions that the concerned in absence of the no authority to check the rates, would come up with the markets in the last few days at an exorbitant rates, which would leave the people to lurch at large. One fails to understand the reasons behind the delay in coming up with the market for sacrificial animals as most of the people would usually buy the sacrificial animals nearly 15-20 ahead of the festival. But, this year, the people have been pushed to the wall and none from the administration is mandated to look into the matter and ensure that the sacrificial animals are available and sold at genuine rates. It is the time for the administration to revisit its decision for the wellbeing of the people so that the sufferings of the people will be mitigated at the shortest possible time.
