Srinagar, Jun 21: Former minister and senior Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Naeem Akhtar has been released from house detention after over a month in Srinagar.
Akhter was second senior PDP leader released from detention close on the heels of invitation by centre to four former Chief Ministers, including Mehbooba Mufti, as many Deputy CMs and six other leaders for talks on June 24 meeting which will be presided over by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Akhter, who was a spokesperson of the PDP-BJP coalition government, was put under house detention immediately after his release from MLA hostel which was converted into sub jail on May 10.
Former minister Akhter was also detained alongwith hundreds of leaders, including three former CMs, on August 5 when centre abrogated Article 370 and 35 A besides divided the Jammu and Kashmir into two Union Territories (UTs).
However, he was later booked under Public Safety Act (PSA) and released in June last year after about 11 months.
The administration released vice president of the PDP Sartaj Madni, maternal uncle of Mehbooba on Saturday when the invitation was extended to Mehbooba for June 24 talks by the centre.
