Forests: The backbone of earth’s ecosystem

With the chill returning to Kashmir, the abnormal power scenario has continued to haunt the people across the Valley, indicating a difficult and worsening situation of electricity during the winters. Although the directions have been passed to the Kashmir Power Distribution Corporation Limited (KPDCL) many a times by the Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, and several other officers, but the ground situation has never changed for the consumers as the erratic power supply and irregular power cuts have continued to irk the consumers, who were expecting an improvement amid the government claims about augmentation of the power infrastructure. The people have been promised high and tall recently when the government installed smart meters across Jammu & Kashmir as they were being promised of round-the-clock electricity, but it seems nothing is working for the administration as this measure too has failed to bring respite to the people when it comes to the power supply. One fails to understand how long the people will have to reel under darkness. Such is the worsening power scenario that the people are not even getting the adequate electricity on special occasions like Urs of Sufi saints and other things. It is the time when the government needs to pull up the socks and take some concrete measures to ensure round-the-clock electricity to the people after utilizing huge amount for augmentation of power infrastructure here. It has come to the fore that the non-cooperation of people in paying the electricity bills is one among the reasons for not being able to ensure adequate electricity to the consumers, but it is the time when the government should act tough against these defaulters and bring some respite to the people, who are paying the bills on time.
