Pulwama, Oct 28: Residents of Kulpora, Panzgam and Reshipora areas in Awantipora sub-division of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district are urging the authorities to repair the vital Kulpora-Reshipora road, which has deteriorated over the years.
Local residents expressed concern over the road’s condition, saying it hasn’t been properly maintained for several years.
This road serves as the shortest route to the national highway and Awantipora town for numerous villages, yet it has been neglected, said Ghulam Mohiuddin, a local resident.
He said the road was macadamised a few years ago but now lies in a dilapidated state at many points. He urged the government to address the issue, saying the road connects dozens of villages in the region.
Mohammad Subhan, another local, said the road needs widening in several areas, as it currently cannot accommodate two vehicles passing simultaneously. He said potholes have also formed in different spots, causing inconvenience to both residents and commuters.
The residents expressed their disappointment with the government’s lack of attention to the road. “We expected it to be properly maintained this year, but it was left unattended,” they said.
Despite bringing the issue to the attention of higher authorities multiple times, no action has been taken on the ground, the locals said. The residents claimed that officials informed them about sanctioned macadamisation work for the road, but nothing has been done so far.
